What is a bat survey?

Initially, a preliminary roost assessment is carried out which is a physical inspection of the site to identify potential roosting features. Following this survey visit, dusk and dawn emergence and re-entry surveys may be required to provide a comprehensive understanding of bat activity in the area.

While bats are most active from May to September, known as the bat survey season, preliminary surveys can be conducted year-round. However, dusk and dawn surveys can only be carried out during the bat survey season of May to September.

For example, dusk and dawn emergence and re-entry surveys can only be carried out between May and September. 

How quickly can you complete the survey following the survey visit?

We typically deliver comprehensive bat survey reports within 10 to 15 working days, ensuring you receive timely and detailed information for your planning needs. It is possible to request the survey to be fast-tracked (guaranteed turnaround in 4 working days), but this will cost extra.
